Down the Pan Book Launch

This event celebrates the publication and launch of Down the Pan, commissioned by The Sociological Review as part of their prestigious Monograph Series. This volume has brought sociologists together with anthropologists, philosophers, geographers and an activist stand-up comic to explore dirt as a social category in the early twenty-firt century. Contributors do that through examining the ways in which dirt is brought into being as dirt through social action, how the language and concepts of dirt are used to boundary morally good from morally bad action, and how built environment shapes these processes. At the launch there will be short talks from contributors, a display of images from the volume and maybe even some poetry to help start a conversation about what it is to be dirty in the early twenty-first century.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

The venue is in Glasgow city centre and can be easily reached by underground, the nearest station is Cowcaddens underground. The venue can also be easily reached by taxi from either Glasgow Central Station or Queen Street Station. If walking the venue can be reached from Glasgow Central Station in 13 minutes and 11 minutes if walking from Queen Street Station.

The closest parking is at Cambridge Street car park, the NCP car park at Buchanan Bus Station or Buchanan Galleries parking.

What can I bring into the event?

The event will provide some nibbles and drinks, however you can also Bring Your Own Bottle as corkage has been provided.
